Phish fans all over the world are still celebrating the reunion of one of the world's most famous bands. The reunion tour started with three dates in March 2009 in Virginia's Hampton Coliseum. Following this weekend, the band played thirteen further shows, making up a summer tour.

They were the headline act for the Bonaroo festival 2009 along other greats like Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band, The Beastie Boys, and Nine Inch Nails. This led to a well-received fourteenth Phish album, released in September 2009 and titled "Joy." The band then embarked on a fall tour, taking their music to several US locations.

While you are holding the violin make sure your elbow is directly underneath or in alignment with the neck of the violin. Then the wrist should be straight or ever so slightly curled back towards you. It is important the wrist does not touch the instrument.

4. Holding The Bow

The right arm is responsible for holding the bow and it has much more freedom in its movements. To hold the bow, place your thumb on the middle joints of both the middle and ring finger. When that is done, bend your thumb to about a ninety degree angle while still keeping the tip of thumb on the middle and ring finger.

Coming in at number 2 was The Rolling Stones with jumpin jack flash. This was and still is one of the greatest guitar jam tracks ever made, you can still hear this played today and you will be nodding your head away to it. Throughout the harrowing coverage from Haiti, one moment stuck out in George Clooney's mind as the most powerful, and music played a large role.

"When you think about [music] and you watch the footage of that woman who was pulled out of the rubble after six days with her husband and she lays on the stretcher and she starts singing," Clooney told MTV News the day before the "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" telethon, airing Friday at 8 p.m. ET. "It's always been a strong connection and particularly in tragedies. I must say, it's been pretty amazing."

Major artists are set collaborate for the first time during the charitable event, from Jay-Z and Rihanna taking the stage with U2's Bono and The Edge in London to a jam featuring Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and Keith Urban in Los Angeles.

Joel Gallen, who is producing the massive production, said the musical acts are at the heart of the benefit. "I just think music is a very strong way to help people begin the healing process," Gallen said. "And I think it's a way to reflect feelings, and a lot of these artists have a lot of deep-rooted feelings that we all share. This is a way for them to express themselves through song, many of which are songs that they didn't even write or that they never even recorded. It's a special performance of a song that they love, that really reflects the emotion of their feeling that hopefully will be an impactful performance that will entice people, motivate people to want to help and contribute."

In addition to airing on MTV and various other networks, an album of the performances and video of the telecast will also be available for purchase in the days following the event via the iTunes Music Store. Songs can be purchased individually, as well, from iTunes, and audio will be made available on Amazon and Rhapsody.

Clooney thinks the opportunity to purchase the music afterward will help to extend the shelf life of the relief efforts beyond the one-night broadcast.

On Thursday night's edition of "The Tonight Show," Conan O'Brien marked the penultimate episode of his brief tenure as host of the program by continuing to pull out all the stops, exiting NBC with guns blazing and bridges burning. Fresh off his newly signed exit deal (which will net him $32 million and allow him to be back on television by September), O'Brien took the hour to eviscerate the network, create yet another giant price tag for a sketch and let guests Robin Williams and Ben Stiller run roughshod.

The show opened with O'Brien announcing that he had reached an agreement with the network and that he was actually feeling melancholy about his exit. "I've been with NBC for a long time," he told the audience. "Remember 'The Cosby Show'? I was Rudy."

He started the fun with Pee-wee Herman, whom O'Brien welcomed to the show to explain the legal implications of his deal, which he illustrated as a children's story starring a giraffe (representing O'Brien) and a peacock. "One day, the peacock lost his mind and started fighting with the giraffe," Herman said. "The fight got so bad that the giraffe had to call his attorney, Optimus Prime!"

The show rolled on with another supremely expensive piece of material, Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird wearing a mink coat and watching restricted NFL footage. Williams followed, spending his entire interview segment ripping on NBC. "It was seven months, so it's kind of like an annulment," Williams told O'Brien. "Except it can't be an annulment because there was sex involved: You got screwed." He wrapped up the show by singing his traditional "End of Show Song," which is not normally aired on TV.

Meanwhile, the rest of the late-night shows were squeezing the very last of the juice out of what has been an extremely intriguing two weeks of television. Jay Leno toned down his monologue a bit but still took some shots at NBC. Jimmy Fallon finally addressed the situation (though very gingerly). David Letterman continued to rip into Leno (when asked why he has been so harsh to Jay, Letterman simply quipped, "Because it's fun!"). Even Jon Stewart shouted "Team Conan!" at the close of "The Daily Show."

It all sets up Conan's "Tonight Show" finale on Friday (January 22). It will feature Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks and Neil Young, and if Thursday night was any indication, there will be plenty more shocks, surprises and more than a little bit of melancholy in store.

Many people I have encountered always dreamed to play the piano. There is something about this instrument that really sparks the imagination.

How to learn to play piano:

Before I explain how to learn to play the piano, I must advise on finding some sort of system you can work with that will explain all of the details I am about to write. It does not have to be a real physical teacher, but some sort of learning system is required.

Technique:

When you begin studying piano, techniques can be the most tiring of all subjects. It really comes down to practicing every day. There are no shortcuts when it comes to muscle memory. Practice basic finger techniques every day and you will eventually be able to play any musical composition you want.

Posture:

Sitting correctly parallel to the keyboard is very important. I see many people who skip this step only to get odd injuries and pains as they progress. It is much easier to learn how to sit correctly than changing a bad posture habit.

Theory and harmony:

Though it can be pretty tiring at first because of all of the different terminologies, Theory and harmony are immensely important. Even though you probably want to get straight to business, understanding the foundations upon which music is built and the logic behind it is very important for your future improvement.

Ear training:

Ear training was once my feared enemy. Listening to tunes and playing them on the piano seemed to be something impossible. Again like with every subject, if you practice it daily, you will start playing music without the need of any sheet of paper to tell you what to do.

When studying how to learn to play piano, it really comes down to practice and persistence. If you want to enjoy playing your favorite songs all you have to do is find a system that will teach you step by step how to do it. Practice it every day for at least one hour and Before you know it you will be playing like a true pro.

Karaoke Singing has become a massive pastime all around the world. It's your big chance to forget about the 9 to 5 and be a star for 3 minutes. Your adrenalin pumps, your heart races and the crowd go wild for you! But what if you could take it to the next level? What if you could actually quit your job and become a professional singer?

It's Friday night and you can feel the excitement growing. You've got home from work, called your friends and your all meeting at the karaoke bar. Your stereo system is blasting out and you're singing along to one of the many songs you know and thinking about which ones you are going to sing tonight.

15 minutes later you arrive at the karaoke bar by taxi, all your friends are there and the place is buzzing. The first karaoke singer performs their song. The audience gives the singer a huge round of applause and now it's your turn. You choose your song from one of the karaoke cds and blow them away with your favourite song. You love every minute of it and the crowd loves you too. There is nothing that comes close to this incredible feeling. For those 3 minutes you are the X Factor winner and these are your fans.

There are another 10 singers on before you can get your next fix. It seems like a lifetime but finally it's your turn again and once again you blow them away with your performance. Life doesn't get any better than this. An audience that loves you and you doing something you love. Before you know it though, the night is over, the bar is closing and it's time to go home. Back to reality and back to that 9 to 5 that you hate.

The alarm clock goes off and here we go its "Groundhog Day again!" And you start thinking to yourself, there has to be more to life than this mundane, monotonous same thing everyday 9 to 5 job that I'm stuck in. Well let me tell you there is.

Most people have a talent for something and you have a talent for singing. Why don't you use that talent and turn it into something that you can make a living from? (A very good living from if you do it right). This is something that you love doing as a hobby. Something that you do very well. So what is stopping you from taking that step and moving up to the next level? What is stopping you from becoming a professional singer?

I get lots of questions from young singers wondering how to begin a professional singing career and one of the major things that appears to be holding them back is that they quite simply don't know what to do to get started. They have learnt lots of songs that they blast out on karaoke but don't know what they should do next. Being able to sing well is a great place to start, but there is a lot more to becoming a professional singer than just being able to sing kareoke. This is where many would-be singers can get things very wrong and ruin their chances of actually making a proper living using their talent. They choose the wrong songs. They contact agents (and you will need to use agents), in completely the wrong way and loose any work they may have been offered. They promote the wrong image. The amount of different P.A. systems available can just confuse the heck out of you and you could end up with a complete turkey of a system!

The good news is that everything you need to know about how to become a professional singer can be learnt and there are basically 2 ways you can learn how.

1. Spend a long time trying to do it by yourself and learning by your own expensive mistakes or

2. Take the short cut and get help from someone who knows the business of live singing inside out and can save you years of frustration and wasted money.

I know which direction I would like to take. It's pretty much a no brainer really.

You have a natural talent as a karaoke singer and are in a job you hate. This natural talent for singing can get you out of your 9 to 5 job and by simply knowing the correct steps to take you can make this dream a reality. If you do it right you will find yourself in what I believe is one of the most fulfilling professions you could ever want to have. Do it wrong and you'll be stuck in that 9 to 5 job you hate! It's your choice.

As we continue our conversation on the advantages of music education for children, I want to make sure you understand that music schools and private teachers do not have it in their agendas to make a great musician out of every student!

Have you ever talked to people who have completed only half of their music education? If not, then I recommend you do. Certainly, they had some difficulties in training, because studying is hard work! But I bet you'll hear them say that they regret quitting. Later in life, people understand that the kind of push they received in their emotional and intellectual development was due to musical training in their childhood.

I talked to many adults who had taken music lessons as children. Some told me amazing stories about how the music helped them improve their memory (and not only musical). Others noticed that their spoken language became richer, and their voice more expressive. I've also met people who use their once-musically trained hands and fingers to do dainty, nimble work in skillful projects. For example, among these are many who work as secretaries or at jobs that are closely connected with a computer.

Children who study music can better and more expressively recite poems than other children. Many "musical" children grow up to be fine actors.

Also, very few people know that the most successful among those who are multilingual used to play musical instruments in childhood! And, the longer their training was as a child, the better their grip on foreign language speaking and comprehension as an adult! Ninety-five percent of polyglots used to or still play musical instruments.

Also, it is obvious that playing music makes the hands - and especially the fingers - of painters or artists quite skillful and capable. Having listed the advantages of music education, I'd like to add that former "musical" children, even if they did not become professional musicians, having grown up, regard their work with more responsibility and professionalism. They are pleasant to talk with because they love people. Due to their specially developed ear for music, "musical" people understand their relatives and children better. The majority of them are happily married, and they choose jobs that have to do with communicating and working with people. There are many teachers, doctors, personnel managers, lawyers, bank clerks, counselors, as well as translators, journalists, etc., among them.

Now, dear parents, hopefully I have dispelled all your doubts about choosing music lessons for your child and answered the question as to "Why I want my child to get music education."

Yet having made such a serious and responsible decision, I am sure that many of you still have some doubts and questions. And those of you whose children have already begun training will come across certain issues and require assistance and guidance in resolving them from time to time.

Drawing from my own experience, I have noticed that while preparing children for music lessons, parents do not always use the recommended literature, which, unfortunately, is really hard to come by. Sometimes such books are written in "dry" and complex language not intended for easy reading and understanding.

Drum Tuition - The Cost of Playing Drums

If you want to learn to play the drums, you are going to have to have someone teach you.

Learning by yourself is not the best way forward, you do not have any goals to reach and you are not under any instruction and practising may not happen.

Luckily, there are many places that you can turn to in order to get proper drum tuition. Be prepared to pay out a considerable sum of money for a tuition course or online package. Even one on one drum tuition is an expensive item and you would be paying anything up to $50 per lesson, which would eliminate a lot of drummers.

Here are a few places that you can get lessons, and a few ways to save on drumming costs.

By joining up with friends you could share the cost of a lesson and have a group lesson with your teacher. A group of no more than 5 is ideal, over that and it defeats the object of group learning.

You could form your own mini club and meet at a location once a week and discuss ideas and practise levels for your drumming skills.

You could even take a drum kit along and each practise with each other.

Depending on how far you want to go with your drumming, if you want to be a professional player then a University Course would be ideal but expensive, unless you have a scholarship.

You will qualify at the end of the course and have your degree in percussion.

The Art of Beat Boxing - A Guide For Beginners

Whether you'd like to believe it or not, there are only three basic sounds you have to master when it comes to the art of beat-boxing. The three necessary sounds you must master are the bass drum, snare, and high-hat.

Lets start off with the bass drum...

1. The Bass Drum

Just as in an real performance, the bass is what drives the beat of the music. This is essential when you are just starting out learning how to beat-box. The bass drum sound is what really gives beat-boxing its real art and entertainment. Without it, you are lost and the music is gone. To create this sound, simply put your lips together and create a block of air behind your lips as if you are getting ready to blow a bubble with bubble gum. Once you have this block of air, simply blow the bubble and you'll create the first basic sound, the bass.

2. The Snare

The snare is to be sync with the bass. It's what helps keep the beat alive along with the bass. In other words, the snare plays off of the beat of the bass and visa versa. To create the snare, put the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth where the roof of your mouth and your two front teeth meet. Once in place, widen your mouth like you are giving someone a fake smile. [A fake smile is the kind of smile you give to someone who thinks you like them when you really don't:-) ].

Now, the middle of your tongue rises to the center part of the roof of your mouth while inhaling at the same time creating suction between the roof of your mouth and the middle of your tongue. Once you have this suction, free the center of your tongue from the roof of your mouth and the end result ought to be a brisk sounding snare drum-like sound.

Note: The tip of your tongue never moves from the top of your mouth during this full procedure.

3. The High-Hat

The high-hat is what keeps the rhythm of the bass and snare. It leads the beat along as if it were the director's stick at a symphony performance. To create the high-hat sound, simply put your teeth together and make a "T" sound as if you are going to say the word "tomorrow".

Once you have mastered these three basic sounds, all you have to do is put them concurrently into a very simple and basic beat. Once you do, you'll have your friends and family thinking you are some sort of beat-box guru. I hope this helps you in becoming a master beat-boxer and I know you'll strive for the ultimate in beat-box success. The Cavern Club

This legendary club where manager Brian Epstein discovered the Beatles no longer exists, having been demolished to make way for the Merseyrail underground in 1973, but the new club was built with the original bricks. It sits firmly in the Beatles' shadow and is a must-see for any true fan. Take in some great live music, look over the Wall of Fame, and touch a piece of music history.

The neighborhood surrounding the club is also a thriving shopping district where Beatle-themed merchandise and entertainment abound.

Magical Mystery Tour

Liverpool is full of sites that shaped and inspired the early lives of the "fab four." See the actual locations that inspired song titles and lyrics. See the places where life events inspired the music that's captured the world's imagination.

One of the best ways to go about this is to schedule a guided bus tour. Magical Mystery Tour is one such tour and takes visitors to sites like Strawberry Field, Penny Lane, and St. Peter's Church in Woolton where John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met. This particular tour tells the Beatles story in a vivid and entertaining way with plenty of music sprinkled in along the way.

The tour originates in close proximity to several good Hotels in Liverpool and is a good way to prevent the frustration that can come with running all over town with a map.

Some fans, however, may choose to take the sights in at their own pace, and this can be a great way for the truly devoted to take their time and get a good feel for these places and neighborhoods.

Of particular interest is John Lennon's childhood home on Menlove Avenue. Lennon's widow Yoko Ono recently purchased and renovated the house, restoring it to it's 1950s styling. Ono donated it to the National Trust and it's now open to the public.

Liverpool hotels and the hospitality in Liverpool generally is particularly accommodating to Beatles fans. Visitors will find that they're both encouraged and welcomed in this rock music Mecca.

It's hard to believe that Oracular Spectacular, the breakout album from Brooklyn psychedelic dance duo MGMT, originally came out way back in 2007, simply because it still remains inescapable today. Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have spent the past few years riding the wave of their infectious, fuzzy grooves to platinum success, and the irresistibility of the smash singles "Time to Pretend" and "Kids" has brought them major spots on high-profile festivals, a pair of Grammy nominations and praise from bloggers and soccer moms alike.

So what will the pair do for an encore? It's called Congratulations and, according to Van Wyngarden, it's in the can and waiting to be unleashed on the masses (which will be sometime in the spring).

"It's definitely going to shock people," Van Wyngarden told Spin. "In a weird way, it's like a soul record."

The group promises that it will be a more complete album — in fact, they are so confident in its existence as a whole that they won't be releasing any singles from it. "There definitely isn't a 'Time To Pretend' or a 'Kids' on the album," Goldwasser told NME. "We'd rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio."

Like Oracular Spectacular, the new album got a healthy dose of production help from David Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, OK Go), and this time around they brought in Spacemen 3 co-founder Pete Kember, who will no doubt lend even more fuzz and exploration to the proceedings.

As for the lyrics, there are plenty more explorations of the psyche (and the chemical effects thereof), but there's also a healthy bit on surfing. In Brooklyn? "When we were making the first record, I didn't surf," Van Wyngarden told Spin. "But for whatever reason, I was dreaming about waves and surfing for about a year straight — so that made it into the lyrics and the imagery of the record. Then about a year ago, when we were recording Congratulations in Malibu, I started surfing. It's definitely a theme. There's one song called 'Siberian Breaks' and it's about 12 minutes long. The general theme is about surfing in the Arctic Circle by Russia."

All that, and you can dance to it? Sounds like a recipe for spaced-out, head-nodding greatness, which is why we think Congratulations will be one of the key rock releases of 2010.

Dropped calls usually don't lead to productivity. But after Swizz Beatz accidentally hung up on Jay-Z while trying to conference the rapper into a conversation he was having with Bono, the producer and the U2 frontman used the extra time to come up with the chorus for their forthcoming Haiti charity single.

The song, tentatively titled "Haiti Mon Amour," a.k.a. "Stranded," also features The Edge and Rihanna and will debut Friday during the George Clooney and MTV Networks telethon "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief," airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"The idea of the song is 'We're not gonna leave you stranded,' and that's what the chorus is," Swizz Beatz told Rolling Stone on Thursday (January 21). "So me and Bono started going back and forth with ideas, and he was like, 'You know this word stranded keeps standing out to me,' and I asked him to sing it, and he put me on hold, 'cause he's recording the ideas on a Dictaphone — so he did it there and then on the phone."

The composition came to life as they played phone tag trying to get Jay back on the line.

The Edge co-produced the record, then Jay-Z handled the verses. Meanwhile, Swizz said Rihanna was added onto the song to give it a "caring" quality. "I knew that Jay would be able to tell a story and that Bono would be able to sing and bring it home," he said. "The last component that I added was Rihanna, and she's kinda like the angel that's on the track, softening it up and giving it that caring feeling, because this hook is so powerful."

Rihanna also confirmed that the song will premiere on Friday during a radio interview Thursday in Norway. The singer, a native of the Caribbean island of Barbados, said, "In the Caribbean, we think of ourselves as one big family, one country. We're all together. We all represent each other. It's like [the earthquake] happened to Barbados."

According to The Edge, Swizz and Jay-Z came up with the idea to contribute a song after the earthquake ravaged the small country. The Edge said the two hip-hop stars reached out to Bono, and the ball got rolling.

Swizz told MTV News recently that he and Bono had become musical and philanthropic allies, which made the collaboration a natural pairing. "Me and Bono, he's a music lover," Swizz said. "I'm a music lover. We knew each other for a while through [Interscope chairman] Jimmy Iovine. He's with Jimmy. We share a lot of mutual friends though the art world. Enrico Navarra, which is one of my art mentors, is one of his art mentors. We always hook up in France. I go to his crib, we go to Enrico's crib. He does art. It's like a musical/art/philanthropic relationship that's there. He's an amazing guy. He has an amazing family. He embraced me and my people with open arms. He's a brother."

It's not a complicated process. Donors simply call into the telethon and pledge various financial contributions to the person on the other end of the line. But instead of an everyday volunteer, "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief," which airs Friday at 8 p.m. ET, will feature some fans-favorite entertainers soliciting funds.

"It'll be the biggest bank of faces that you recognize answering the phones," George Clooney told MTV News. "And that will be streamed live on the Web the entire time. So if you call and you get Daniel Day-Lewis on the line, you can wave at him, and you'll see him. It'll be kind of funny, actually. I told everyone to say they're Daniel Day-Lewis."

Clooney is hoping the star power will help the charitable effort reel in much-needed money for the survivors in Haiti.

Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen are among the superstars set to perform at the event, while President Bill Clinton, Will Smith and Muhammad Ali are some of the notable names who will make appearances.

Clooney is thankful to all the stars who have volunteered their time in one way or another. He was particularly excited about those who will be manning the phones.

"You got about 130 to 140 actors, athletes, singers and television hosts, and they're all coming up not to be on TV, but simply to answer the phones," he marveled.

Are you looking to become a DJ and your needing turntables? Are you looking at the cost ratio, what should you buy, used turntables or brand new turntables? I will give you a little insight on the different factors of buying DJ equipment turntables.

Turntables can be pretty expensive, especially when you have to have two turntables to do any mixing. If you're just starting out money may be a concern. But you also have to keep in mind what you're getting when you purchase used DJ equipment turntables.

Yes they are a bargain compared to buying new ones. But ask yourself this question, why are they selling their turntables? Is there something wrong with them that they won't tell you? Are they looking for quick cash? Is it stolen property? All these factors would have to be looked at when buying used turntables.

Everything may look good on the surface but when you get ready to start mixing that's when the problems start. The reason I say this is because I ran into the same problem. I bought some used turn tables for a friend so that he could start his DJ career and when he went to hook the turntables up, he ran into all sorts of problems, and they guy I bought them from, had a pre paid phone which was no longer in service, yeah I was a little angry at the time, but you live and you learn.

Cost may be an issue when buying new DJ equipment turntables but to be the best you have to have the best. There is nothing like the smell of new turntables coming out of a box, it just smells like greatness, and how much money I will make with those turntables, all man. Trust me it's all worth it.

With brand new turntables I feel safer because I know if something is wrong with the turntables I have a warranty of some sort. This is what I did to get those brand new DJ equipment turntables, instead of going with used ones again; because if you want to do something you have to do it right.

I had the will and dedication to getting this DJ empire off the ground, so I decided to invest my money in new equipment; because I knew with the fire in my teams heart we can make the money we spent back in ten fold.

So if you have the determination to be the best then do what I did and go get the best DJ equipment turntables, and trust me whatever you spend will return plus plenty more as long as you're doing your part.

Swizz Beatz's commitments are even more hectic than the last time we featured him in this section — the guy only touches U.S. soil for a brief stint these days. Luckily he stopped by our offices before jetting off to Paris and told us a bit about the next Jay-Z album. Swizz has huge things on the horizon, including a song for Haiti with Jigga and U2, a top-secret movie score, high-end art, clothing design and crafting a new, worldly sound for himself and other artists.

"I get the pressure cookers," Swizz says about record execs and artists calling him for must-need smash singles. "It's cool, because I been trained like that since day one. I came from that pressure with my uncles and everybody needed the singles not now, but right now. I'm there getting carpal tunnel in my hand, going in. That [work ethic] never leaves you."

Current Greatness

On Jay-Z's "On to the Next One": "That song was the last one of the album. I [originally] fell back off The Blueprint 3 because there were rumors about Timbaland working on the whole thing, rumors about Kanye working on the whole thing. I respected that. If they want to do that, I respected that. I'm on to the next one. I gotta respect Jay's creativity. If he wanted to have Kanye produce that whole record, let them have that. I know the next album we can hook up or whatever. [Me and Jay] got 11, 12 years in together — that's the homie. Since other people was on the album, I came in the loop at the last minute. [Jay] got on the phone like, 'I need one of them things.' I said, 'I'mma send you something. I don't have a whole bunch of joints I wanna send you. I got this one particular that I wanna send you.' I sent it to him. That was 'On to the Next One.' He said, 'That was crazy. It's "Drop It Like It's Hot" crazy.' I was super excited because I threw one dart and that dart hit the bull's-eye. That's amazing, being where I'm at in the industry where you can throw darts like that."

Next Wave Of Flav

On Young Jeezy's Upcoming Thug Motivation 103: "He just needs that thing to come out the gate like he never left. That's my job. I'm sure he's got some amazing joints. The songs I heard, they're Jeezy joints, but it's like, 'Hmmm, do I throw him on some Fela [Kuti] vibe with some crazy 808s and let him take a risk? Is it too much of a risk? Or do I play safe and do the easy hit that I know they gonna love?' But I can't keep doing that. It's getting me nowhere. The feeling, I'm numb. I want something I can feel, like, 'This joint I got coming out with Jeezy with the African bongos and the Indian instruments, the hook doing this right here — it's gonna change the game.' That's how I'm trying to walk in 2010."

On DMX's Comeback LP: "It's still love. At the end of the day, it's about scheduling, timing — if it was just about going in the studio, we would have 50 albums done. But it's not about that; it's about a lot of personal things. I'm on this side of the world, he's on that side of the world — how do we come and meet?"

On Drake's Debut Thank Me Later: "For Drake, I'm like, 'What you want? A party joint or you want another story joint? What you wanna do?' He said the smartest thing: 'We could shoot for a club thing but don't leave out anything else.' I like that. He's being open-minded, 'cause that means I'm comfortable with surfing in different areas musically. We could surf there, surf there, but don't box me in a corner, like, 'I need that #1 club smash right now.' "

On T.I.'s 2010 Album: "That's the homie. I don't have nothing for him yet. His mind and his thought pattern before he went [to jail] is gonna be different from when he gets out. That man has been in the penitentiary at a time that was the height of his career — he might come out and not wanna use curses no more. He might come out and use more curses. I don't know. I can't create the sound for Tip that's based on 'Swing Ya Rag' and 'Bring Em Out' and all these things we've done unless it's his plan. NEW YORK — Since last week's devastating earthquake struck his homeland of Haiti, Wyclef Jean has been tirelessly rallying support for relief for the ravaged country via his Yele Haiti foundation and many public calls for assistance. And, as one of the organizers of Friday night's "Hope for Haiti" telethon, he plans to incorporate some of the country's traditional music into his set.

"I'mma start with 'Rivers of Babylon,' " Wyclef told MTV News during a break from rehearsals for the event on Thursday (January 21). "Then, after that, I'm gonna go to a traditional Creole song, one of my songs called 'Yele.' Then we're gonna close it out with some Racine. Racine is roots music of the country. Everybody loves Haiti. I haven't heard too many people speaking Creole yet. That's the Haitian language in French. Tomorrow night on my set, I'm gonna teach y'all Creole 101."

'Clef will be surrounded by family and loved ones during his set on Friday.

"It's gonna be historic," Jean said. "I have my sister with me, Melky, my cousin with me, Jerry. I have [producer/musician] Papa Jube, he's in charge of those traditional horns that you see. It's definitely a family vibe you'll see tomorrow."

George Clooney, who helped to organize "Hope for Haiti," said the telethon was spurred into action by a call from Wyclef.

"I was in New York the evening it happened," he told MTV News on Thursday. "It happened at four or five o'clock, and I got a message from Wyclef that he's gonna go into the Dominican Republic and that it was much worse than what's initially been reported. We knew it was bad, but who knew how bad? And he said, 'Is there anything you can do?' So the next morning, I woke up and called Judy McGrath at MTV, and Judy said, 'We were thinking about doing something too,' so I said, 'Let's do it.' "

On Wednesday, Wyclef appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and talked about the devastation in Haiti.

"It's just like the seventh hell, and walking [around] there's two things: There's what you see at the airport and then there's inside the belly of the beast," he said. "The best I can explain it is for you to walk into a city and the entire city feels like walking into a morgue. For every two blocks, [there are] 15, 16 bodies on the floor — no plastic. People running through the city, babies in their hands, while their baby is dead. They're out of [medicine] at times. People are saying, 'My baby's gonna die,' not knowing their baby's already dead."

"Hope for Haiti Now" will air commercial-free on MTV and many other networks on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.

Native British band Massive Attack will be visiting London during their upcoming tour in early 2010. The February 2010 tour date is set to coincide with the release of the duo's latest album, Heligoland, which follows closely on the heels of the 2009 EP, Splitting the Atom.

Comprised of DJs Robert Del Naja (3D) and Grant Marshall (Daddy G), Massive Attack is a staple of experimental music in Europe, boasting of collaborations with the likes of David Bowie, Madonna, and TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe during the course of their 22 year career. In brighter times, the well-known duo counted production whiz Andrew Vowles (Mushroom) amongst their ranks, but permanently parted ways with Vowles in 2009 due to disagreements about the future of the band's sound.

From Bristol to the Big-Time

Massive Attack emerged from the Bristol music scene of the mid-1980s, where the members were previously involved in the band, The Wild Bunch. Not long after, Marshall, Del Naja, and Vowles formed their own act with an eclectic mix of electronic, hip hop, soul, punk, and house influences, leading to a recording contract with Circa Records in 1990.

The trio's first studio album, Blue Lines, was released in 1991 by Virgin Records, and was unexpectedly met with favourable critical reactions in the UK. The album introduced the band's signature fusion of melancholic downtempo beats, paired with ghostlike vocals from featured guest singers, most notably Shara Nelson. Massive Attack's innovative musical style quickly received the label of trip hop, a genre that has since grown to include Portishead and Tricky.

Rocky Moments in the Rise to Fame

Following a disastrous U.S. tour, Massive Attack refueled and released two successful albums, Protection in 1994 and Mezzanine in 1998. Under the lead of former MC, Del Naja, the band gradually began to incorporate more post-punk influences into their music, a factor that eventually contributed to disputes between Del Naja and Vowles. The 2003 album, 100th Window, was almost entirely dominated by Del Naja with minimal input from the remaining member, Daddy G.

Massive Attack's latest studio efforts comes in the wake of charity involvement with the Hoping Foundation and several years spent reconnecting with former collaboraters. While tickets for the Brighton Dome tour date have already sold out, devoted Massive Attack fans can still secure a seat at the Hammersmith Apollo in London for February 11, 2010. London hotels will likely be experiencing heavy traffic in early 2010, so non-locals should make appropriate plans as soon as possible. On Friday (January 22) at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. CT), MTV's "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" will air across a number of networks, including MTV. Hollywood A-listers will join forces with some of music's biggest names to raise funds for Haiti after the devastating earthquake hit the nation last Tuesday.

Brad Pitt, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jon Stewart, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks and Will Smith are among the many participants joining George Clooney (in Los Angeles), Wyclef Jean (in New York) and CNN's Anderson Cooper (reporting from Haiti) for the event.

"You got about 130 to 140 actors, athletes, singers and television hosts, and they're all coming up not to be on TV, but simply to answer the phones," Clooney told MTV News on Thursday. He added that the telethon's main goal is to "raise money, period. That's it. ... Just first and foremost that we can raise a lot of money. If I thought that we could all pick up shovels and go in there and not be in the way, I think a lot of people would do that."

The musical performances will include ones by pop legend Madonna (in New York) and Haitian artist Emeline Michel (in Los Angeles) as well as Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira and Sting in New York. In L.A., Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift will take the stage, plus there will be a group performance by Keith Urban, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. London will feature Beyoncé, Coldplay, and a collaboration between Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna.

"It's gonna be historic," Jean said about his performance at the show. "I have my sister with me, Melky, my cousin with me, Jerry. I have [producer/musician] Papa Jube; he's in charge of those traditional horns that you see. It's definitely a family vibe you'll see tomorrow."

Beginning Friday, iTunes customers will be able to exclusively pre-order the "Hope for Haiti Now" full-performance album ($7.99) and the full two-hour video telecast ($1.99). Pre-orders will be delivered in the days following the telethon. Individual audio performances will also be available for purchase and download for 99 cents each in the days following the telethon. Apple, the record labels and the artists will donate their share of the proceeds to Haiti relief funds managed by "Hope for Haiti Now" charities, including the Red Cross and Wyclef's Yele Haiti foundation. Performances will also be available for purchase in the days following the event through Amazon's MP3 service and Rhapsody, through distribution provided by INgrooves.

Clooney thinks the opportunity to purchase the music afterward will help to extend the shelf life of the relief efforts beyond the one-night broadcast. "We're gonna have 18 songs, and you're gonna get to hear Jennifer Hudson sing a song you never heard her sing before," he said. "John Legend is singing 'Motherless Child'; it's just great. We're gonna have some amazing performances, and I think that's gonna make it last a little longer than just a telethon."

"Hope for Haiti Now" will begin accepting donations at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT on Friday. "Hope for Haiti Now" will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation and the newly formed Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation. Proceeds from the telethon will be split among each organization's individual funds for Haiti earthquake relief. With the exception of the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, each partner organization was selected for its history of operation and collaboration within the NGO community in Haiti.

"Hope for Haiti Now" will air across ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, The CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, CMT, PBS, TNT, Showtime, Comedy Central, Bravo, E! Entertainment, National Geographic Channel, Oxygen, G4, CENTRIC, Current TV, Fuse, MLB Network, EPIX, Palladia, SoapNet, Style, Discovery Health, Planet Green, CNN en Español, HBO Latino and Canadian networks, including CBC Television, CTV, Global Television and MuchMusic. Leonardo DiCaprio has donated $1 million to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. The actor, who will be on hand Friday night (January 22) for MTV's "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" telethon, is the latest Hollywood A-lister to donate a large amount to help Haiti's recovery after last Tuesday's 7.0 earthquake.

The money will be paid out through the Leonardo DiCaprio Fund and will go to support the near-term assistance and long-term recovery efforts, People reported.

"I salute Leonardo DiCaprio for his extraordinary generosity," former President George W. Bush said in a statement. "This donation sends a clear message to the people of Haiti that America's commitment to helping rebuild their country is strong. I thank Leo for setting a wonderful example for all Americans of helping a neighbor in need."

George Clooney, who is helping to organize "Hope for Haiti Now," has given $1 million to relief for victims, as have Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Gisele Bundchen donated $1.5 million to the cause, and Madonna, who will perform in New York for the telethon, said she's donated $250,000.

"I think it's the same message that everybody does, that churches do, that communities do — which is everybody participate, help out, whatever way you can," Clooney told MTV News in Los Angeles on Thursday, during rehearsals for the star-studded telethon. "If it's clothing, give clothing. This is designed for money. And it can be anything. Five bucks — it can be anything, whatever way you can help out, but be involved. It's a big world out there, and we all have a lot of responsibility to look out for people that can't look out for themselves."

Manchester - Home of the Smiths

Manchester has spawned its own fair share of iconic music groups, but few have enjoyed the sort of long-running cult favourite status that The Smiths have. Indeed, The Smiths - who formed in 1982 and were fronted by lead singer Morrissey - not only hailed from this large city, but they frequently alluded to it in many of their most popular songs. Fans of The Smiths can't roam around the city without running across places that Morrissey mentions in many of the group's songs. Without question, The Smiths and Manchester are indelibly linked; if you're a fan of the group, a holiday in Manchester is a wonderful way to pay tribute.

The Smiths: The Beginning

After being formed in 1982, The Smiths released their first proper album, the eponymous The Smiths, in February 1984. Manchester took centre stage in a couple of different tracks from the album. In "Still Ill," for instance, Morrissey mentions "The Iron Bridge," a place that can be found on Kings Road in Manchester. The song "Suffer Little Children" was about the infamous Moors Murders that happened in the city between 1963 and 1965. Finally, in "Miserable Lie," mention is made of Whalley Range, a section of Manchester. Indeed, The Smiths was coloured with many references to Manchester's history and its landmarks.

Mid-To-Late Career

Although The Smiths were never a huge sensation in their day, they released a steady stream of relatively popular music during their career. The 1985 record Meat Is Murder carried a more political message, but the 1986 album The Queen Is Dead took Manchester into the spotlight once more. On that record, the song "Cemetry Gates" mentions Southern Cemetery, a well-known Manchester burial ground. In "Vicar In A Tutu," lyrics mentioning Manchester's Holy Name Church - which is on Wilmslow Road in the city - also bring Manchester into focus once more. The rapid-fire nature of The Smiths' record releases were wise, though, since the band would shortly break up.

The End Of The Smiths

While several mentions of Manchester were made in many of The Smiths' first three albums, it was their fourth one - Strangeways, Here We Come - that commemorated the city in the most obvious way. After all, Strangeways Prison is a famous Manchester institution, and the tongue-in-cheek title of what would become The Smiths' final record surely brought smiles to the faces of many Mancunians. As it happened, frontman Morrissey and lead guitarist Johnny Marr were increasingly at odds around the time that Strangeways, Here We Come was released in September of 1987. The band split shortly thereafter; Morrissey, in particular, went on to enjoy a relatively successful solo career.

The Smiths And Manchester: Forever Linked

Despite the rapid rise, descent and demise of The Smiths, the band made an unforgettable mark on the city of Manchester. Today, fans regularly make pilgrimages to the city, staying in Manchester hotels in order to check out the many sites that Morrissey sang about in various Smiths' albums. Learning to Play the Piano by Ear

Sometimes you find someone who has a natural gift for playing the piano by ear. They can play beautifully, but don't know how to read a note of music. If that is something you wish you could do, there are methods for teaching yourself how to play by ear.

First and foremost, you have to have good recall of the song you are trying to replicate. Listen to a recording of it several times, until you know, not only the melody, but also the harmony that made that tune so special. Then you need to pick out that tune on the piano. Once you have the basic melody, you then need to fill it out, by adding chords and chord progressions. Those three steps may sound easy, but they are not...unless you have the gift.

You may have to sit at the piano for hours, until you are able to consistently pick out the tune, note by note, every time you play it. Then you can perfect the timing, so that your rhythm is correct. Filling in a chord (a series of notes that, when played together give you a pleasant harmony) here and there begins to give the tune some body.

You may then experiment with filling in some of the space by playing the notes of that chord one at a time. However, this process is slow and painstaking if you don't do some research on how to construct chords, fill in the spaces and learn some chord progressions.

If it involves so much learning and work, what are the advantages of playing by ear? Mainly, it eliminates the need to learn how to read music, pay for piano lessons, the cost of purchasing sheet music, and the need to memorize every song you play (if you don't want to carry your sheet music with you very time you go to a party of social gathering). It also enables you to play any song that someone asks you to play...as long as you have heard the song and know the tune.

Another advantage is that you are not stuck playing a song in the key you learned it in. If someone wants to sing along, and the key of C is too low for her, you can automatically adjust your chords to a higher key and accommodate the singer. You are also at liberty to adjust the style and timing, and literally make it your own composition when you aren't reading it off of sheet music.

Don't be afraid to attempt to learn to play by ear. The more you practice, the easier it will become. So follow these steps:

Start with a song you know well that has a very simple melody. Be aware of the intervals (distance between two notes).

Next you have to harmonize the song by adding some chords.

You don't need more than three of them until you get more proficient. Whatever key you choose to play it in (C is easiest, as it has no sharps and flats), the chords are based on the 1st, 4th, and 5th note of the scale (CDEFGAB). Within the three chords, you can change the sound by moving the three notes in the chord around, by playing CEG or EGC or GCE, now giving you nine different chords to add to your song. Here are my three tips to ensure you get your hands on great instrumental teaching:

Firstly make sure that your teaching course is substantial and large enough. You want your money to buy you a vast knowledge of information, tips, techniques and music. Having a huge resource to tap into on a regular basis will help you greatly.
Secondly ensure the lessons cover both rhythm and lead guitar playing. You will want to know how to play chords and structure but you also want to be able to play lead melodies, lyrics, tricks and riffs. It is always best to be a well rounded musician that can pull everything out of the bag.
Finally make sure your lessons include some excellent diagrams, videos or both. Having something visual makes learning a lot easier. Just think how easy it is to copy chord diagrams. Many lessons also throw in some excellent bonuses such as backing tracks or jam tracks. These are great to improve your ear and ensemble capabilities.

Most of the recommended online rock guitar lessons websites will include all of the above.
