electric guitar lessons for beginners, you’ll know that I’m not fond of private tutoring. While having a private tutor is probably the fastest and most efficient way of learning the guitar, it also costs a fortune.S
So, the best alternative I can recommend is getting an online course, and while there are lots out there, there is one in particular which I have used and recommended for a couple of years now, called Jamorama.
So, while this website is about finding your first electric guitar, this post will be about the Jamorama course, and whether or not you should get it.
Breaking through the hype
Ok, so if you go to the Jamorama homepage, it says something along the lines of “Who wants to learn to play like Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Green Day” etc… Who wouldn’t right? While this course is great, it won’t be enough to get you from beginner to professional from start to finish… The only thing that will do that is practice.
What this will do however, is teach you all the stuff you need to know that would usually cost a few hundred dollars if you were to be taught by a private tutor (maybe more!). Not only that, but most of the people who I have recommended this course to have learnt the material in around a week, which I personally think is amazing given how important and difficult some of the techniques can be for beginners.
So, while the homepage may seem hyped up, it delivers what it says it will deliver.
What You Get
Although the course is targeted at the absolute beginner, it also has a complete ebook targeted at the intermediate player, designed so that the user can go straight from the beginner ebook to the other. This is great for anyone who has already learnt the basics of playing the guitar and wants to go straight into the more challenging material.
Along with the 2 main ebooks (and a couple more worth checking out), the course also has videos and jam tracks to practice along with, which tie in directly with what you learn in the book. Personally, this is my favorite part of the course, as you can see exactly how the teacher plays each part individually, and you can play what you’ve learnt with a backing track.
Most online courses also come with “bonuses”, and Jamorama is no exception. Whilst other courses I’ve found offer bonuses with very little value, I was genuinely surprised with how useful a couple of the bonuses that Jamorama includes are. Jayde Musica Pro is a game that teaches you to read music (which is slightly addictive!), whilst GuitarEarIt trains your ear to identify guitar chords.
Who should get it?
Although Jamorama does offer something for beginners, intermediates, and even some tips for experts, the course works best for the absolute beginner. It boasts something along the lines of 150 video lessons and 250 pages of material, however the vast majority of that is targeted to someone who is just starting to learn the guitar.
So there you have it, if you’re a beginner guitarist looking for electric guitar lessons for beginners, the Jamorama course is worth taking a look at.
